Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday met with European Council President Donald Tusk and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker in Beijing.
Xi said that China and the European Union (EU) are both builders of world peace and contributors to global development, and upholders of the international order. China is willing to work together with the EU on the basis of mutual respect, fairness, justice and win-win cooperation, to push forward China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership to a new level, promote economic and social development of the two sides, and improve people’s livelihood, he added.
Xi stressed that China always regards the EU as an important force that encourages the steady development of international landscape. The two sides should firmly keep to the correct direction of China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership, and continue to promote their partnership for peace, growth, reform and civilization.
He added that the two sides should follow the trend of world multi-polarization and economic globalization, strengthen strategic communication and coordination, join hands to safeguard multilateralism and rule-based free trade system, jointly safeguard open world economy, promote trade and investment liberalization and facilitation, improve global governance and advance the cause of peace and development for humanity.
Tusk and Juncker said that EU-China comprehensive strategic partnership is of great significance. The EU thanks China for supporting European integration progress, and is willing to expand cooperation with China in various fields, strengthen communication and coordination in international affairs, they added.
They said that both the EU and China are committed to multilateralism, advocating for maintaining rule-based international order. The two parties will handle state-to-state relations based on mutual respect, and improve multilateral trading system through multilateral negotiations.
