"The Chinese president points out in the article that there's historic links between both countries. But it goes far beyond 1984. It actually goes back to the Silk Road. So there has been connections for a long, long time, thousands of years. So he mentions that in the article, that's important. The second point is that today, 200,000 Chinese expatriates call the UAE home. That's also important and they work across many fields. Also there is big areas of cooperation in terms of infrastructure. Chinese are involved in the oilfields. They're involved in the ports, so that also is a point that President Xi Jinping points out. So those two areas are very important."

Chinese President Xi Jinping's signed article published on major newspapers of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Wednesday has drawn high comments from media workers and citizens of the country.
Xi's article was published on the Al-Ittihad and the Alwatan (The National) newspapers before his forthcoming visit to the country.
The Al-Ittihad is the most important Arabic daily newspaper in the UAE, as well as the first periodical publication in the country, which belongs to the Abu Dhabi Media.
"The Chinese president's signed article is very important. It is our honor to have it published on the Al-Ittihad. This article reflects consensuses reached by leaders of the two countries on economic development and social prosperity and development. It will further consolidate the historical relations between the two countries and expand bilateral cooperation in economy, culture, politics, social development and other sectors," said Hamad Al Kaabi, executive director of Publishing Department of Abu Dhabi Media.
In the article, Xi pointed out that China and the UAE have maintained longstanding friendship, and that the forefathers of the two had exchanges to meet each other's needs more than 2,000 years ago via the ancient Silk Road.

So those two areas are very important," said John Dennehy, reporter of Alwatan, or the National.
The UAE will be the first Arab country Xi is going to visit after his re-election as the Chinese president. Xi wrote that he looks forward to drawing the blueprint with UAE leaders for future cooperation, further tapping the potential of their cooperation, and putting the development of relations between China and Arab countries into high gear, and building a community of shared future with the UAE within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative to better benefit the peoples of the two countries, which is well received by the UAE citizens.

The Emiratis and people of all Arabic states take Chinese industries as an example and hope to learn from their experience, so many are cooperating with Chinese companies and institutions," said Mohammed al-Wahibi, an Abu Dhabi resident.
In the signed article, Xi also mentioned the vigorous development of people-to-people exchanges between China and the UAE. As Chinese culture is becoming more and more popular among the Emiratis, the president called on the two countries to strengthen cooperation in the fields of culture, education, tourism, youth affairs and media.
"I visited many scenic spots and historical sites when I went to China. I hope more Emiratis go to travel in China, and we welcome Chinese to the UAE. We know that the number of Chinese tourists to the UAE exceeded one million last year. I hope more and more Chinese tourists will come. Chinese people are our brothers. China is advanced and the Chinese people are civilized. The UAE welcomes all Chinese people," said Mona Al Hamoudi, another resident.
President Xi will pay a state visit to the UAE, Senegal, Rwanda and South Africa on July 19-24, attend the 10th BRICS summit on July 25-27 in Johannesburg, and will pay a goodwill visit to Mauritius during a stopover there.
