The Syrian Arab Army forces have been undergoing rest and reorganization in the "Triangle of Death" in southern Syria in preparation for follow-up operations, after taking control of the rebel-held parts between the Darra and Quneitra Governorates one day ago.
The government army units took the town of al-Mal and the al-Mal Hill Tuesday from the rebels and expanded their control in Daraa.
"When we forged down the hill, the anti-government forces were fleeing around. We then launched forceful strikes and they fled to the neighboring areas of Quneitra. So we took control of the hill and raised our national flag," a government force soldier recalled.
One day after the operation, the government troops were resting in the newly-gained town, with multiple armored vehicles parked by the roads.
On the over 1,000-meter high al-Mal Hill in the west of the town, the solders stacked stones, which they said would mislead the enemy as they look like sentries from a distance.
Apart from patrolling and safeguarding the al-Mal Hill, the government forces were also busy setting up more tents to accommodate more soldiers.
"From here, we can see the western parts of Daraa and the eastern parts of Quneitra. So the [al-Mal] hill is very important. It is located in between the two governorates, and we can fight the rebels here. Some good roads that were previously used for transporting rebels and their supplies have been cut off after we took control of the hill," said another Syrian Arab Army soldier.
Not far away from the al-Mal Hill, there stands the al-Harra Hill, which was also recently brought under the control of the government forces. The two hill form a crucial area for military operations and is called the Triangle of Death because of intense fights to take control of it.
As the Triangle of Death is one of the few highland areas in southern Syria, it is expected that the government forces will take full advantage of the terrain and proceed to move into the Quneitra Governorate to fight against the remaining rebels.
