Storyline

Chinese President Xi Jinping's forthcoming visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will promote bilateral cooperation in various fields, the UAE Minister of Economy Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansoori said in a recent interview with China Central Television.

President Xi will pay a state visit to the UAE, Senegal, Rwanda and South Africa from July 19 to 24.

In the interview, the minister pointed out that the state visit by President Xi reflects the great importance China attaches to the development of bilateral ties with the UAE.

"It's very important because this sends a message from the top leadership of China to the UAE leadership that both our relations are very important, very critical. And the UAE, of course, we always look at China with a lot of respect," he noted.

He is full of the hope that the forthcoming visit will further promote bilateral cooperation in various areas.

"China is a major economic power. We learn a lot from that model. And hopefully through this visit that is going to happen this week, we will see a lot of achievements also happening in terms of opening up other areas of cooperation whether it is political, economic, social, and many, many others also," he said.

As the minister of economy, Al Mansoori revealed that the economic sectors of the two countries will conduct extensive exchanges to explore opportunities of investment for businesses on both sides.

"We will present a number of cases concerning the possibility of investments here for Chinese companies in the UAE. And meanwhile, also the Chinese side will present also their potential investment in China," he noted.

Moreover, he holds that the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative will bring great opportunities to the UAE with the sound local logistics system.

"There is already an established sophisticated logistics system here in the UAE that is connected to the rest of the region and beyond in East Africa, central Asia, and so on. And that's why we see this project very much can connect through the UAE as a hub," he said.

The Belt and Road Initiative, proposed by China in 2013, refers to building a Silk Road Economic Belt and a 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. It is aimed at building a trade and infrastructure network connecting Asia with Europe and Africa along ancient trade routes.
