Chinese ambassador to the United States met with the governor of Kentucky to discuss trade on Monday in the Governor's Mansion in the state capital of Frankfort. The state's auto industry is at risk amid the U.S. trade frictions with China.
Kentucky's Republican Governor Matt Bevin struck an optimistic tone during the meeting with Ambassador Cui Tiankai, pledging to woo more Chinese companies to the state.
Tariffs imposed by both countries are set to take effect on August 23 and will affect the auto industry of the state. The autos largely accounted for Kentucky's 60 percent increase of exports to China last year.
The United States and China will impose 25 percent tariffs on another 16 billion U.S. dollars worth of imports from the other country on Aug. 23, after their tariffs increase on each other's products worth 34 billion U.S. dollars came into force on July 6.
