China is strongly opposed to the United States to be engaged in any forms of official or military contact with Taiwan region, said Ma Xiaoguang, spokesman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, in Beijing on Tuesday.
Ma's response came after U.S. President Donald Trump signed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2019 into law on Monday.
The bill includes clauses such as directing a whole-of-government strategy on China and submitting the assessment and plan on strengthening Taiwan's force readiness.
Ma said the Taiwan issue concerns China's sovereignty and territorial integrity. The Chinese mainland is firmly opposed to the U.S. arms sales to Taiwan and urges the U.S. not to implement the negative Taiwan-related clauses in the NDAA for Fiscal Year 2019 so as not to undermine the China-U.S. relations and cross-Strait peace and stability.
Ma also said that the mainland has sternly warned the Democratic Progressive Party in Taiwan that any attempt to buoy themselves up by leaning onto foreign forces will inevitably undermine the well-being of the Taiwanese people.
