We know that last time, when Saudi Arabia and another three Arabic countries tried to isolate Qatar over the excuse of Qatar supporting the terrorism, Turkey came to Qatar's help. At a time Turkey not only necessarily provide the foodstuffs, but also Turkey sent troops to protect the sovereignty of Qatar. This time, it is Qatar's turn to help Turkey. Qatar promised to send 15 billion U.S. dollars. This is a huge amount of money, believed that it will ease the pressure financially on Turkey. So this can show that the two countries' relations has been already consolidated and strengthened."

Maybe Qatar this time would try to help both sides to find a kind of solutions and he would carry sort of very important message from Turkey to the U.S."

Storyline

Qatar's investment in Turkey will greatly reduce Turkey's financial pressure and help mediate the relations between Turkey and the United States, both of whom are important allies of Qatar, according to a Chinese expert on Thursday.

Qatar pledged 15 billion U.S. dollars of direct investment to Turkey on Wednesday, to help shore up the country's financial stability during its ongoing tariff dispute with the United States.

Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani made the announcement during a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara.

"I would like to say this is something that has already consolidated or strengthened the alliance of interests of different countries within the Middle East. So this can show that the two countries' relations has been already consolidated and strengthened," said Li Guofu, director of the Center for Middle East Studies at the China Institute of International Studies.

Last week, Washington doubled steel and aluminum tariffs on Turkey over its continued detention of the U.S. pastor Andrew Brunson, driving the Turkish lira to a record low.

In return, Erdogan signed a decree to also raise tariffs on some U.S. imports including cars, alcohol and tobacco, an official report said Wednesday.

After Qatar's announcement and a pledge by Turkey's central bank to tighten liquidity, the Turkish lira bounced back by about six percent on Wednesday, after losing almost 45 percent of its value against the U.S. dollar this year.

Li gave his take on Qatar's role amid the trade dispute, saying the gulf state is trying to mediate between Turkey and the United States, as both of the two countries are very important allies.

"At the same time, we also be fully aware that the U.S. is another important ally of Qatar, so I don't believe that Qatar would stand with Turkey in order to against the Americans. Rather than, I would say that the Qatar role is to try to mediate between the two very important allies of Qatar. Maybe Qatar this time would try to help both sides to find a kind of solutions and he would carry sort of very important message from Turkey to the U.S.," he said.
