Storyline

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said China fully supports the Pyongyang Joint Declaration of September 2018 signed by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the Republic of Korea (ROK).

Wang said this in Beijing on Thursday when commenting on the outcome of the third summit this year between DPRK top leader Kim Jong Un and ROK President Moon Jae-in. The two leaders agreed to take additional steps toward making the Korean Peninsula free of nuclear weapons and threats of armed conflict.

"DPRK top leader Kim Jong Un signed the Pyongyang Joint Declaration of September 2018 with President Moon Jae-in. This is a blessing for the people of the Korean Peninsula and a dream of people all over the world including the Chinese. China warmly congratulates it and fully supports it," Wang said.

The Chinese foreign minister called the move a big progress, asking for joint efforts to work toward the goal of denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula.

"All parties should take actions and make concerted efforts towards this goal. This year marks the 65th anniversary of the signing of the Korean Armistice Agreement. Peace comes late. We cannot let this chance for peace slip away again," Wang said.

Moon Jae-in arrived in Pyongyang on Tuesday for the third summit with Kim Jong Un.

Earlier Kim and Moon met in the truce village of Panmunjom on the border on April 27 and May 26.
