"If it escalates, I think it will affect many people. It will affect the economies. It will affect the financial systems of many countries. And it will affect consumers, because not forget that consumers in America will suffer as result of buying more expensive products from other countries than China."

"Particularly, in Finland, we have seen the benefit of free trade. And any limitation to that means that everybody will take less, nobody will win in this game. European economies will also suffer if there is more tolls and taxes all over the world."

Many economies and consumers across the world will suffer from the trade barriers the United States has created, European economic experts said after Washington escalated its trade tensions with China by slamming additional tariffs on Chinese products.
The United States, disregarding overwhelming international and domestic opposition, announced to impose additional 10 percent tariffs on 200 billion U.S. dollars' worth of Chinese products starting Sept. 24.
Andreas Erotokritou, a Greek consultant on corporate, commercial and immigration matters, believes the unilateral action on the U.S. side is an open violation of the international trade order that dampens people’s faith in the recovery of the world economy. As a result, the uncertainties in global economic trends will harm consumers in many countries, including those in the United States.
"If it escalates, I think it will affect many people. It will affect the economies. It will affect the financial systems of many countries. And it will affect consumers, because not forget that consumers in America will suffer as result of buying more expensive products from other countries than China," he said.
Many are concerned that countries in the European Union, which for many years have benefited from the idea of united efforts for peace and prosperity, will also fall victim to the latest U.S. limitation to cross-border trade.
"Particularly, in Finland, we have seen the benefit of free trade. And any limitation to that means that everybody will take less, nobody will win in this game. European economies will also suffer if there is more tolls and taxes all over the world," said Martti Husu, managing director of the Kouvola Innovation Oy, a development company owned by the Finnish city of Kouvola.
