China is working on the amendment of the Administrative Measures for Strategic Investment by Foreign Investors in Listed Companies, which will encourage foreign investment and foreign capital merger and acquisition in China, said Gao Feng, spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce.

Gao made the remarks in response to a media question at a regular press briefing on Thursday. He said that that the ministry is discussing with related departments about the amendment, on which the ministry had solicited public opinions between July 30 and August 29 this year. Special seminars were also held to collect expert views from law firms, securities traders and business representatives.

"From what we've received, the society universally approve [the amendment]. It is believed that the amendment shows China's direction of development, which is to expand opening-up, to streamline government functions and administration and to delegate powers. The amendment is also a positive signal to the market, which helps build confidence among investors, help listed companies, including private ones, expand channels of foreign investment use, introduce foreign capital and management experience, and unleash market vitality," Gao said.

The ministry is working on public opinions one after another and will positively take in reasonable advice and roll out the amended measures as soon as possible.
