"China expresses strong indignation towards the above-mentioned unreasonable practice of the U.S. and has lodged a solemn representation. China expresses strong indignation towards the Unites States for imposing sanctions on a Chinese military department and urged the U.S. to withdraw its sanctions, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Friday.

The U.S. State Department announced on Thursday to impose sanctions on the Equipment Development Department of China's Central Military Commission and its director "for breach of the Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act of 2017 (CAATSA)".

"China expresses strong indignation towards the above-mentioned unreasonable practice of the U.S. and has lodged a solemn representation," Geng Shuang, the spokesman, said at a press conference.

"The U.S. practice has severely violated the norms of international relations, and seriously damaged the relations between the two countries and the militaries. We strongly urge the U.S. to immediately correct its mistake and withdraw the so-called sanctions. Otherwise, the U.S. side must take the consequences thereof," said Geng.
