"China has repeatedly stressed that the practices of bullying and extreme pressure the United States has adopted do not work for China. The United States probably has got used to meddling other countries' economy by using its so-called strength. But we do not think it would be helpful to settle the disputes between our two sides by escalating the trade friction. Meanwhile, China's economic situation characterized by stable and steady performance with good momentum for growth remains unchanged, as new driver of growth is rapidly emerging and moving toward high-quality development."

Storyline

U.S. bullyism practices and extreme pressure to escalate the trade tensions do not work for China, China's Ministry of Commerce spokesman Gao Feng said in Beijing on Thursday.

Gao made the remarks at the ministry's regular press briefing when asked to comment on the U.S. threat of imposing tariffs on imports of 267 billion U.S. dollars of Chinese goods.

"China has repeatedly stressed that the practices of bullying and extreme pressure the United States has adopted do not work for China. The United States probably has got used to meddling other countries' economy by using its so-called strength. But we do not think it would be helpful to settle the disputes between our two sides by escalating the trade friction," Gao said.

"Meanwhile, China's economic situation characterized by stable and steady performance with good momentum for growth remains unchanged, as new driver of growth is rapidly emerging and moving toward high-quality development," added Gao.

In late September, China published a white paper to clarify the facts about China-U.S. economic and trade relations, demonstrate its stance on trade friction with the United States, and pursue reasonable solutions.

Excluding the foreword, the 36,000-Chinese-character white paper is comprised of six parts, including mutually-beneficial and win-win China-U.S. cooperation in the trade and economic field, clarification of the facts about China-U.S. trade and economic relations, the trade protectionist practices of the U.S. administration, the trade bullyism practices of the U.S. administration, damage of the improper practices of the U.S. administration to global economy, and China's position.
