The Gulf Information Technology Exhibition (GITEX) Technology Week 2018 opened in Dubai on Sunday, showcasing various kinds of leading-edge technologies from across the world.
Themed on the future of urbanism, this event has attracted 4,000 plus exhibitors from over 120 countries and regions.
Dubai Police unveiled a new flying motorbike at the exhibition. Made of different types of carbon fiber, the light-weight bike is designed for police to patrol in the city.
As it is currently in the testing phase, the maximum flying height of the bike is set at five meters.
"The speed has been enhanced. It can reach 96 kilometers per hour. For two hours and a half, it will be fully charged. But with a pilot mode, now it depends with the weight of the person, [the flying time lasts] between 15 to 25 minutes," said Mohammad Yusef, a police officer of the Department of Artificial Intelligence, the Dubai Police.
Robots also caught visitors' eyes at the exhibition. The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) presented a robot that can detect problems of a vehicle accurately and quickly, and then instantly send information back to the owner's phone.
The Technology Week also features the GITEX Future Stars, where innovations of more than 850 startups and enterprises from over 75 countries and regions are on display.
The GITEX has been held annually since 1981 and the 38th edition of it this year will run through Thursday.
