Storyline


A 90,000-carat sapphire sculpture is on exhibit at the ongoing 2018 China Changle International Gem Fair, which started last Friday, attracting many visitors.

The sculpture, named “Yellow Crane Tower”, is made from 60 kilograms of natural sapphire and took two years to carve.

"This work is the largest natural sapphire sculpture exhibited at the fair. Sixty kilos of sapphire materials were used to create it. It took us two years to finish the work, which weighs more than 90,000 carats. Such a large, natural sapphire work is rare in China," said Li Donghai, the curator of the China Sapphire Museum.

The fair, which will end on Monday, is being held in Changle County of east China's Shandong Province and has attracted more than 90 internationally renowned jewelry companies from more than 20 countries. The number of exhibitors this year also reached a record high.
