Storyline

Doctors providing treatment and health care services for people in northwest China's Xinjiang Region rescued a young girl who was hit by heart disease.

Two months ago, Kalbinur was sent to the hospital in a coma due to high fever, who was diagnosed as having endocarditis, a kind of heart disease. This was like a thunderbolt for her family.

"When she was sent here, many of her organs had been in an exhaustion status, like breathing prostration, heart failure and kidney exhaustion. So the mortality rate for her was very high," said Chao Yali, director of the intensive care unit (ICU) in the hospital.

Before coming to Xinjiang to provide treatment and health care services for people, Chao had worked in ICU in east China's Jiangsu Province for years. So she has abundant experiences. However, this case was still a complicated one for her.

Kalbinur's father Kurbanja told the reporter that Chao stayed up for four days and nights to rescue his daughter.

Fortunately, their rescue efforts finally paid off, and after 15 days, the function of her organs gradually recovered.

"On the 15th day, the patient began to urinate, which meant her kidney function recovered. The recovery of each organ showed the hope for her life," said Chao.

However, new problems occurred during the treatment process, which forced the team to take a risk to make new choice.

"I told the doctors to cast away all their concerns, and the hospital would undertake all responsibilities. To save her life, we need to create miracles one by one," said Ding Qiang, president of the hospital.

In the next three days, over 40 doctors participated in the rescue work. Professor Shen Zhenya, the doctor operating the surgery for Kalbinur, hastened to the hospital from Jiangsu immediately, who was 61 years old.

"When my daughter was pushed out of the operating room, the doctor told me the operation was successful. I was very excited and called my wife and other relatives immediately to tell them the good news," said Kalbinur’s father Kurbanja.

A month later, Kalbinur is gradually recovering and making plans for her future. Now she is considering to take an examination with her schoolmates for the qualification of kindergarten teacher.

The family also showed their deep gratitude to the doctors.

"Her mother cried every time when she saw me. Though she could not speak Chinese, I knew what she wanted to say," said Chao.

In addition, Kalbinur is not the only one who benefits from the project.

"Kalbinur is the 121st patient who has benefited from the 'Warm Heart' project initiated by the Jiangsu medical team to Xinjiang in the past two years. We will further attract experts here, provide medical subsidy and cultivate indigenous talents, making this project to be a bridge to connect Jiangsu and Xinjiang and enhance ethnic unity," said Guan Yongjian, director of the project.
