Chinese Vice Premier Liu He said Friday the stock market tumble was due to panic over the China-U.S. trade tensions, as well as an uncertain economic outlook.
However, he added that China and the U.S. were back in trade negotiations, and he played down the material impact of their dispute, saying the effect was more psychological.
He said another reason for the tumble was the interest rate hikes by the central banks of many major economies.
He has also called for stronger credit support for non-state-owned companies, and more opportunities for state-run firms and private companies to invest in each other.
Chinese stocks hit a near-record low this week.
