China is willing to work with other parties to deepen regional economic integration and to promote inclusive and sustainable growth in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) region.
The APEC Leaders' Week is scheduled to be held from Nov. 12 to 18 in Port Moresby, the capital city of Papua New Guinea.
This year's Leaders' Week, themed "grasping inclusive opportunities and embracing a digital future," aims to enhance connectivity and deepen regional economic integration, promote inclusive and sustainable growth as well as strengthen structural reform for inclusive growth.
Li Chenggang, the assistant minister of China's Ministry of Commerce, showed China's expectation for this meeting.
"Firstly, we will comprehensively advance trade connectivities. Specifically, it includes two aspects: we will promote the Asia-Pacific model e-port network to achieve new progress and we will also push forward progress in developing a global value chain cooperation, thus establishing an APEC value added in trade database," said Li Chenggang.
The achievements that APEC has obtained in trade and economic connectivity have corresponded to China's Belt and Road Initiative and China has made great contributions to it. Li also said China will join with several countries to follow the Beijing Roadmap which was agreed upon by 21 APEC members in 2014 to push forward the process of the Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific (FTAAP).
"Second, we will deepen our cooperation of regional economic integration and advance the Asia-Pacific Free Trade Area. Along the direction of the Beijing Roadmap, China will work with other parties to proactively promote the process of the free trade area. We will report the progress of the Asia-Pacific Free Trade Area to the APEC meeting based on the requirements of the 'Lima Declaration', which was published in 2017," said Li.
In addition, all parties have gained proactive process in many fields like investment, the service industry and small and medium enterprises and it is hopeful that more achievements will be made.
"Thirdly, we will contribute economic elements to the post-2020 vision. In the economic and trade field, we have agreed to focus on the general goal of establishing an open Asia-Pacific economy featuring extensive participation and benefit for all, which should support a high standard free trade area in the Asia-Pacific region, comprehensive connectivity and an inclusive digital economy," he said.
He added that China will express its support for the formulation of the post-2020 vision and its position to further advance trade and investment facilitation and liberalization.
"China will also encourage the meeting to send positive signals to support the multilateral trading system. Given the severe challenges the multilateral trading system is facing and the rise of protectionism and unilateralism, China, as an important upholder of the multilateral trading system, will work with most members to advance the meeting and try to form a key tone to support the system," he added.
