Chinese President Xi Jinping's upcoming visit to Pacific island countries will enhance China's overall relationship levels with these countries and promote the solidarity and cooperation among developing countries, said an official during Chinese Foreign Ministry's press briefing Tuesday in Beijing.

President Xi is to pay state visit to Papua New Guinea, Brunei, and the Philippines from Nov. 15 to 21, and will attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) leaders' meeting from Nov. 17 to 18 in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea's capital city.

"President Xi's visit to the south Pacific will help further elevate China's relations with Pacific island countries, inject strong vitality to expand exchanges and cooperation between China and these countries in a wide range of areas, and will have a far-reaching and a positive impact on peace, stability and development of this region," said Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Zheng Zeguang.

According to Zheng, China has three expectations for President Xi's upcoming visit.

"First is to deepen the friendly relations and cooperation with Papua New Guinea. During President Xi's visit, he will exchange opinions with leaders of Papua New Guinea on developing bilateral relations and the international and regional issues of common concern.
