Governor-General of Papua New Guinea (PNG) Bob Dadae on Friday held a grand 21-gun salute ceremony in front of the national parliament house to welcome Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Crowds of PNG people dressed in traditional costumes lined the streets leading to the parliament house, performing folk dances and playing music.
After the motorcade arrived at the ceremony site at 10:30 a.m. local time, Dadae extended his warm welcome and cordial greetings to Xi.
Xi ascended a review stand and the military band played the anthems of China and PNG while the 21 guns were fired in salute. Then, Xi Jinping reviewed a guard of honor in the company of Dadae.
Xi is paying a state visit to PNG upon the invitation by Dadae and PNG Prime Minister Peter O'Neill.
During his stay in PNG, Xi will meet with leaders of the Pacific island countries that have diplomatic relations with China.
