Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday met with Samoan Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi in Papua New Guinea’s capital Port Moresby.

During the meeting, Xi pointed out that the bilateral relations face new opportunities for development.

He called on both sides to adhere to a high degree of political mutual trust, continue supporting each other on issues of their core interests and major concerns, expand cooperation in various fields within the Belt and Road Initiative(BRI) framework and enlarge people-to-people exchanges.

He also said that China supports Samoa in hosting the 2019 Pacific Games and will continue supporting the country to improve its capability to tackle climate change.

Tuilaepa said since Samoa established diplomatic relations with China, it has firmly adhered to the one-China policy.

The prime minister expressed gratitude to China for helping his country in infrastructure construction, which is conducive to its strives to shake off the status of being a least developed country and promote its development.

He added that Samoa is willing to advance major cooperation projects with China under the BRI.

Le président chinois Xi Jinping a rencontré vendredi le Premier ministre des Samoa, Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi, à Port Moresby, capitale de la Papouasie-Nouvelle-Guinée.

M. Xi a appelé les deux pays à maintenir une confiance politique mutuelle de haut niveau, à continuer à se soutenir mutuellement sur les questions concernant leurs intérêts fondamentaux et leurs préoccupations majeures, à élargir la coopération dans divers domaines dans le cadre de l’initiative "la Ceinture et la Route", et à multiplier les échanges humains.

Pour sa part, M. Malielegaoi a exprimé les remerciements de son pays à la partie chinoise pour son soutien dans des domaines tels que la construction des infrastructures, ajoutant que son pays était prêt à faire avancer des projets de coopération clés dans le cadre de l’initiative "la Ceinture et la Route".

M. Xi effectue les visites d'État en Papouasie-Nouvelle-Guinée, à Brunei et aux Philippines du 15 au 21 novembre. Il participera également à la réunion des dirigeants de la Coopération économique Asie-Pacifique (APEC) du 17 au 18 novembre à Port Moresby.

Председатель КНР Си Цзиньпин, прибывший в Папуа-Новую Гвинею с государственным визитом и для участия в 26-й неофициальной встрече руководителей АТЭС, 16 ноября в Порт-Морсби встретился с премьер-министром Самоа Туилаепой Саилеле Малиелегаои.

В ходе встречи, по сообщению ИА "Синьхуа", Си Цзиньпин отметил, что в настоящее время открываются новые возможности для развития китайско-самоанских связей. Две страны должны придерживаться высокоуровневого политического взаимодоверия и продолжать поддерживать друг друга в вопросах, затрагивающих коренные интересы каждой из сторон.

Китайский лидер также призвал обе страны расширять многоотраслевое сотрудничество в рамках "Одного пояса и одного пути" и культурно-гуманитарные обмены. Китай поддерживает Самоа в проведении Тихоокеанских игр 2019 года и продолжит оказывать стране содействие в повышении способности противостоять последствиям изменения климата, сказал Си Цзиньпин.

Туилаепа Саилеле Малиелегаои, в свою очередь, заявил, что после установления дипломатических отношений с Китаем в 1975 году Самоа неизменно придерживается политики "одного Китая". Самоа благодарна за поддержку, оказываемую Китаем в сфере строительства инфраструктуры, которая внесла важный вклад в обеспечение развития государства и выход из категории наименее развитых стран. Он выразил готовность совместно с Китаем продвигать крупные проекты в рамках "Одного пояса и одного пути".
