"China came to the APEC meetings with sincerity, and Chinese President Xi Jinping, in his important speech during the meetings, put forward China's opinions on how to promote world economic development and enhance global governance. He gave China's suggestions on how to deepen cooperation within the APEC mechanism. China's remarks do not target anyone, or aimed at challenging anyone, but we all have seen the U.S. behaviors during the meetings. They came with what seemed to be fury. Their remarks have led to disagreements and conflicts, breaking the harmony in the meetings and hinder people who want to reach agreement and conduct cooperation. China has been reiterating that the Pacific is vast enough to accommodate both China and the U.S., as well as all other countries in the region. The Asia-Pacific region is the home where countries live side by side, not a battlefield where countries contend to be the winner. And the APEC is a platform for deepening cooperation, not a place for finger-pointing. China came to the meetings to look for cooperation and agreement, not to fight against anyone in a match, or compete with anyone on a stage. We hope that the U.S. could work with China and other parties, with respect of the diversity in the Asia-Pacific region, to promote APEC cooperation, build the home of Asia-Pacific and promote regional economic integration on the basis of mutual trust and win-win cooperation. I also want to add that anger hurts people's body and health. Getting angry very often will only end up hurting oneself."

Storyline

The Asia-Pacific region is the home where countries in the region live in peace, not a battlefield, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Monday.

In response to the disagreement between China and the United States during the APEC meetings in Papua New Guinea, spokesman Geng Shuang said that China came to the meetings with sincerity, and Chinese President Xi Jinping, in his speech, voiced China's opinions on promoting world economic development and global governance.

Geng said, however, that the U.S. seemed to have come to the meetings with anger.

"China's remarks do not target anyone, or aimed at challenging anyone, but we all have seen the U.S. behaviors during the meetings. They came with what seemed to be fury. Their remarks have led to disagreements and conflicts, breaking the harmony in the meetings and hinder people who want to reach agreement and conduct cooperation," Geng said.

He said that China has always emphasized that the vast Pacific can accommodate both China and the U.S., as well as other countries in the region.
