Storyline

Chinese President Xi Jinping's signed article injected new vitality to the bilateral relationship between China and the Philippines, said a chief editor of the Daily Tribune.

A signed article by President Xi titled "Open up a New Future Together for China-Philippine Relations" was published Monday in three Philippine newspapers ahead of his state visit to the Southeast Asian country.

Lozad, the chief editor of the Daily Tribune, one of the three newspapers that published the article, said he was deeply impressed by the article, in which President Xi pledged to make greater progress in elevating China-Philippines relations toward a higher level.

"I believe President Xi wanted to impart the principle of 'Guanxi' [relationship], which is based on respect and mutual trust. I guess that's the road that both President Xi and President Duterte is taking to make the development in the region more progressive," said Lozad.

He added that both the presidents from the two countries have attached great importance on economic development and China advocates for economic globalization and the establishment of a community with a shared future, which has won the support of different parties and met the development philosophy of the Asia-Pacific region.

"President Xi and President Duterte have the same passion for development and making their respective countries move forward and develop. I know that President Xi has his new 'Long March', which is essentially the blueprint for the progressive development of China," he said.

Lozad recalled the days when he worked in China several years ago and now he also often goes to China to exchange ideas with his counterparts there. The friendly exchange between the two peoples has promoted bilateral cooperation on all fronts.

"Good relation is providing the exchange of social and exchange of people between both countries, which is really good, since we are neighbors. We are hoping that there would be more peaceful existence between the two countries so we can both progress," said Lozad.

President Xi will start his two-day visit to the Philippines on Tuesday.
