The draft of the Brexit deal reached with the UK last week was "fair and balanced", said the European Union's chief Brexit negotiator on Monday.
Michel Barnier told a press briefing in Brussels that the draft was agreed on by 27 member countries in addition to the UK. After he explained the draft and outline of the political declaration about future relations of the UK and EU and discussed these with representatives of the member countries.
"We are in fact at the decisive moment in this process. No one should lose sight of the progress that will be achieved in Brussels and in London. I am pleased that Ministers today support the overall package," said Barnier.
Barnier emphasized that the draft was "fair and balanced".
"Globally speaking, this deal is fair and balanced. It takes into account the UK positions. In particular, we have found a compromise to avoid a hard border between Ireland and Northern Ireland. Both sides, both parties want to avoid using the backstop," he said.
