The China Giant Panda Culture Alliance was launched Thursday in Ya'an City of southwest China's Sichuan Province that is home to many of the highly-vulnerable animals.
The alliance is aimed to stabilize the breeding of the giant pandas, preserve the ecological integrity of the mammals' natural habitats, promote ecological civilization centered on harmonious co-existence, spread the giant panda culture and integrate the culture with tourism.
The new alliance has 11 council members from Sichuan, Gansu and Shaanxi provinces, all homes to main habitats of giant pandas.
The Chinese government has been actively conserving the endangered species over the years, setting up sanctuaries that safeguard more than 66 percent of the giant pandas in the wild and almost 54 percent of their existing habitat, according to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
