Remarkably, China also accounted for around 60 percent of all global solar cell production. So the world would not be as far along as it is in solving the climate crisis except for what China has done."

Storyline

Representatives including high-profile climate change activist and former U.S. Vice President Al Gore praised Chinese companies' efforts towards achieving a green transformation at the Conference of the Parties (COP24) in the southern Polish city of Katowice on Thursday.

A number of individuals and Chinese companies shared their experience in energy saving and emissions reduction during the special meeting held at the Chinese Pavilion on the sidelines of the Building Climate Movement Platform for Enterprises forum on Thursday.

Xie Zhenhua, China's special representative on climate change affairs, pointed out the significance of companies' participation in the climate change movement and called for more companies to join. After the Chinese government set out its long-term goal and established related laws and standards, Xie said the responsibility falls on the enterprises to implement these goals. Corporate organizations such as "Low Carbon China" have also played an important role in pushing forward the transformation, the official added.

Al Gore, founder and chairman of the Climate Reality Project and the former Vice President of the United States from 1993-2001, also addressed the meeting. Chinese companies in seeking sustainable development have already become an important power in the campaign for coping with climate change, Gore said. The coordination and collaboration between the government, enterprises and charity organizations in China have also achieved remarkable success, he added.

"China is one of the few countries on track to meet its Paris commitments. China by itself added more solar electric generation 53 gigawatts than any other country had in total at that time. Remarkably, China also accounted for around 60 percent of all global solar cell production. So the world would not be as far along as it is in solving the climate crisis except for what China has done," said Gore.
