The World Trade Organization (WTO) held the first session of its biennial review of the United States' trade policies in Geneva, Switzerland, on Monday.
Ambassador Sunanta Kangvalkulkij of Thailand, also chairperson of the Dispute Settlement Body (DSB) of the WTO, presided over the session on Wednesday, introducing the review report drafted by the WTO secretariat covering U.S. trade policies between 2016 and 2018.
Ambassador Dennis Shea made a statement about the United States at the session.
Representatives of more than 50 WTO members spoke on matters of concerns and extended their hope that the U.S. would return to guarding the multilateral trading system and warned against the threats posed by unilateralism to global trade in particular.
Zhang Xiangchen , China's Ambassador to the WTO, said that economic globalization brings both opportunities and challenges. China hopes to work together with the United States and other members to push the WTO to move with the times and go through necessary reforms so as to adapt to the trend of globalization and respond to the expectations of the international business community.
The review will continue until Wednesday.
