Chinese senior officials met with visiting Sierra Leone's minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation, Alie Kabba on Friday in Beijing.

Yang Jiechi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, said during the meeting that Chinese President Xi Jinping and his Sierra Leonean counterpart Julius Maada Bio held talks, reached important consensus and made up a blueprint for development of bilateral relations during the Beijing Summit of Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

He reiterated that China is willing to consolidate the traditional friendship with Sierra Leone, deepen political trust, enhance cooperation in all fields, closely coordinate and collaborate with each other in the international and regional affairs, and safeguard common benefits of the two countries as well as other developing countries.

Kabba said Sierra Leone wishes to join with the Chinese side to push bilateral relations forward constantly.

On the same day, the Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi also met with Kabba and jointly held a press briefing.

Wang said both sides should work together to promote their pragmatic cooperation in infrastructure, medical treatment and education, and turn the two leaders' common consensus as well as the FOCAC's eight major initiatives on industrial promotion, infrastructure connectivity, trade facilitation, green development, capacity building, health care, people-to-people exchange, and peace and security, into actual results.

Kabba said Sierra Leone adheres to the one-China principle. He said his country and other African countries are willing to strengthen coordination and collaboration with China and stand on the right side of history.
