China will continue promoting consumption upgrading in 2019 to create a robust domestic market, said the Chinese Minister of Commerce Friday in Beijing.
Minister Zhong Shan said the Chinese market has huge potential. In 2018, China's commodity consumption surpassed 38 trillion yuan, maintaining the top driving force for economic growth for five consecutive years.
The government will take a series of practical measures to deepen consumption upgrading.
"First is upgrading urban consumption. We will initiate the first batch of 11 pedestrian streets upgrading plan in full swing in the country, optimizing the layout of convenience stores and renovating vegetable markets to make 'convenient service available within 15 minutes circle'," said Zhong.
Rural areas is another important part of consumption promotion, Zhong continued.
"We will make solid progress in pushing e-commerce into rural areas, covering 90 percent of national-level poverty-stricken counties. We will encourage more industrial products to enter rural areas and agricultural produce to cities, boosting markets in urban and rural areas at the same time," said Zhong.
To better develop service consumption, China will spare no effort in its poverty alleviation battle.
"We are working on a pilot program of alleviating poverty through providing home services in more than 100 cities and 10,000 villages and labor service overseas in the hope of creating 150,000 jobs in rural areas so as to promote service consumption development," said Zhong.
