The first batch of 14 female soldiers recently joined a garrison on Pamirs Plateau of Southern Xinjiang Military Area Command of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.

The garrison is in charge of patrolling more than 1,000 kilometers of China's border line.

The bus carrying the soldiers, climbed two mountains at the altitudes of more than 4,000 meters and arrived at the garrison in the evening.

They were received amid deafening sounds of drums and gongs at the garrison.

The next day, the garrison arranged the female soldiers to visit its history museum in order to help them know more about it and evoke their enthusiasm in fulfilling their duties.

"As first female soldiers to garrison the border on the plateau, I think we will perform our duties better together with our male peers. I believe we will become the snow lotuses that take root in the Pamirs Plateau," said Tursun, a platoon leader with the garrison regiment of Southern Xinjiang Military Area Command.
