China's 2018 GDP registered a 6.6-percent year-on-year growth, outstripping the official target of 6.5 percent, according to data released on Monday by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

The reading was lower than the 6.8-percent growth registered in 2017.

"According to preliminary estimates, the total value of China's GDP was 90.0309 trillion yuan, a 6.6-percent year-on-year increase as calculated by comparable prices, outstripping the anticipated goal of around 6.5 percent," said Ning Jizhe, head of the NBS.

The GDP grew 6.8 percent in the first quarter, 6.7 in the second, 6.5 in the third and 6.4 in the fourth, NBS data showed.
