Storyline

Strengthening global cooperation is important for the world economy, which has experienced slow and uneven recovery since the global financial crisis, said the founder of the World Economic Forum (WEF) on Monday.

Klaus Schwab, founder and executive chairman of the WEF, shared his views with China Global Television Network, on the sidelines of the 2019 WEF annual meeting, which officially opened in Davos, Switzerland, on Monday.

Schwab said he hopes this year's meeting would provide more space for the discussion of global governance and believes that China will play a significant role under the new framework of globalization.

"China is now a forefront of innovation, technology process. I think China has taken a lead also in artificial intelligence, self-driving cars. So, China can contribute based on its experiences. But China has also to contribute because it plays a major role in the world," said Schwab.

Schwab stressed that leaders of all countries should think more about global cooperation under the current economic framework.

"There are two aspects, the first one is more on a macro level. I think we are walking on relatively thin ice, because as our Global Risk Report, which we published some days ago, shows so many threats to the global economy. I think it's very important to strengthen global cooperation. That's what we want to achieve here in Davos," he added.

Schwab also shared his insights on the challenges faced by the world economy.

"There are three elements, which I personally would highlight. So first, of course, is the risk in the whole environmental to fields. The second one I think is the lack of global cooperation which I mentioned. And the third one is cyber security," said Schwab.
