Professional checking equipment received the very-high-frequency omnidirectional range (VOR) signal, and tested the signal sent from the instrument landing system on the runway 17 left, of which the parameters are stable. The runway lights are very clear, making it an airport using a large number of energy-saving and bright LED lights in China."

Storyline

The Beijing Daxing International Airport will enter the check and acceptance stage as the first test flight was successfully completed on Tuesday.

The airport, scheduled to open in September, sits at the junction of Beijing's Daxing District and Langfang, a city in north China's Hebei Province. The new airport is expected to handle 45 million passengers annually by 2021 and 72 million by 2025.

The test flight also marks the beginning of an overall assessment to check the quality of the navigation and communications equipment at the airport.

"The conditions of airplane approaching and flying through indicate that the air clearance area around the airport is in good condition and meets the flight requirements. Professional checking equipment received the very-high-frequency omnidirectional range (VOR) signal, and tested the signal sent from the instrument landing system on the runway 17 left, of which the parameters are stable. The runway lights are very clear, making it an airport using a large number of energy-saving and bright LED lights in China," said Xiong Jie, director of the Flight Inspection Center under the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).

The four runways of the airfield, three vertical and one horizontal, have been completed so far, and the debugging of their navigational lights has begun.

The roof decoration boards of the terminal have been paved, more than 80 percent of mechanical and electrical equipment have been installed, and the major structures of the freight station and the comprehensive service building have also been capped.

"In terms of auxiliary projects, the major structures for entering and leaving the airport have been completed, the elevated roads in the airport have been open to traffic, the construction of utility tunnels has been completed, major deciduous trees have been planted, and the operation command center building and the command hall have been capped," said Zhu Wenxin, deputy general manager of the Beijing Daxing International Airport.

The air traffic control supporting project has also entered the preparatory stage.

The terminal control center, the biggest highlight of the air traffic control supporting project and scheduled to be the largest terminal control center in China, will realize flight control integration in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region for the first time.

"Once opened to use, the terminal control center where we are now can integrate several terminal control centers. So it's very convenient to coordinate when we encounter some special situations," said Yan Xiaodong, deputy head of the North China Regional Air Administration.
