4. SOUNDBITE (Chinese) Wang Qishan, Chinese Vice President:
"We need to consider in a balanced manner the interests of all the countries, especially those of emerging market economies and developing countries. We can not apply the security and standards of developed countries or individual countries to the whole world."

Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan on Wednesday called for efforts to uphold multilateralism and solve global imbalances with further growth.
Addressing the ongoing 2019 annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Wang stressed that further development is a solution to development imbalances that arise in the process of economic globalization.
"Countries should press ahead with structural reform, strike a right balance between equity and efficiency, adopt effective policy measures to prevent the worsening of income inequality and fend off the impact on some regions and industries caused by new technologies and market competition so that all people stand to gain from continued development," Wang said.
Comparing the market to a pie, Wang added that the more urgent task is to make the pie bigger, rather than just debate how to divide it.
His speech came as ongoing trade disputes between the world's two biggest economies make life difficult for many companies.
Turning to the Chinese economy, Wang reaffirmed China's commitment to reform and openness, and expressed confidence in China's future development.
He pointed out that questions about China's development and progress can be answered from historical, cultural and philosophical perspectives, calling on the world to understand China from various aspects.
The Chinese vice president also said it is of great importance to hold the bottom lines for the safety of all mankind, and gradually develop rules and standards, and meanwhile to leave a wide space for technological development and innovation.
"We need to consider in a balanced manner the interests of all the countries, especially those of emerging market economies and developing countries. We can not apply the security and standards of developed countries or individual countries to the whole world," Wang said.
Wang added China seeks common progress with other countries while seeking its own development. He noted China looks forward to building a community with a shared future for mankind, a future in the age of the fourth industrial revolution.
This year's Davos forum gathers global elites to discuss "Globalization 4.0," a buzzword that means a new wave of globalization in a digital world. More than 60 heads of state or government, 40 international organization heads and 1,700 business leaders attended the event.
