A week-long flower exhibition is being held in Pyongyang to commemorate the late leaders of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il, as part of the commemorations for the Day of the Shining Star on Saturday.
The Kimjongilia Flower Exhibition, which uses close to 30,000 flowers, opened Thursday at the Kimilsungia-Kimjongilia Exhibition Hall. Kimilsungia and Kimjongilia are cultivars of dendrobium and begonia named after the two late leaders.
A regular feature of the Day of Shining Star, which marks the birthday of late leader Kim Jong Il, the DPRK has been holding the flower exhibition since 1996. Aside from exhibiting flowers, the event also showcases the country's progress over the past year.
The current exhibition focuses on achievements related to the country's economic development.
