3. SOUNDBITE(Chinese) Geng Shuang, spokesman, China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
"We have noticed that for some time, the Venezuelan government has remained composed and restraint, and committed itself to maintaining domestic peace and stability, thus effectively preventing large-scale bloody conflicts. If forcing the delivery of so-called humanitarian aid on Venezuela, the possible eruption of violence will have grave consequences, the last thing that any party would like to see. China opposes military intervention against Venezuela, and opposes any actions that may lead to escalating tension or even unrest in Venezuela."

China opposes any action that may lead to violence in Venezuela, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said on Friday.
Geng's comment came after the tension in Venezuela has escalated this week. Last Saturday, U.S. military cargo planes carrying aid arrived in the Colombian border city of Cucuta. Denying the existence of a humanitarian crisis, the Venezuelan government refused to let the aid cross the border and called the aid operation a U.S.-orchestrated show leading to an eventual invasion.

China opposes military intervention against Venezuela, and opposes any actions that may lead to escalating tension or even unrest in Venezuela," said the spokesman.
The United States has recently stepped up economic and diplomatic pressure against the Venezuelan government.
In his Monday speech to Venezuelan American community at Florida International University, President Donald Trump said the United States was seeking a peaceful transition in Venezuela without ruling out the use of force.
The power struggle between Venezuela's ruling socialist party and opposition groups deepened last month after Juan Guaido, who is also the head of the National Assembly, proclaimed himself "interim president."
Guaido, who was immediately recognized by the United States and other countries, has announced the opposition will take the delivery of U.S. aid on Feb 23, despite government objections. The challenge sets a deadline for a potential clash between supporters and opponents of the government.
