Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud in Beijing on Friday, calling on both sides to work together to open a new stage of China-Saudi friendly relations and strategic partnership.
During the meeting, Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), said the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Saudi Arabia has formed an all-round, multi-level and wide-ranging pattern.
He stressed that the two countries should continue to enhance support and mutual trust on matters concerning their core interests and major concerns.
China firmly supports Saudi Arabia in its drive for economic diversification and social reform, and its efforts to safeguard national sovereignty, security and stability, said Xi, adding that China opposes any interference in Saudi internal affairs.
He called on the two nations to work together to better synergize the Belt and Road Initiative with the Saudi Vision 2030, promote cooperation in energy, infrastructure, trade and investment as well as high value-added industries.
Launched in April 2016 by the crown prince, the Vision 2030 aims to diversify Saudi Arabia's economy beyond the energy sector.
The crown prince said that Saudi Arabia considers China as an important strategic partner and that he was grateful to China for its support in Saudi Arabia's domestic reform and development.
Saudi Arabia firmly upholds the one-China policy, he said.
He said that China is entitled to safeguard its national security via counter-terrorism and de-extremism measures. Saudi Arabia respects and supports it, and it is willing to strengthen cooperation with China, he added.
