"China conveys its sympathies to Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe for damage, heavy casualties and major property losses inflicted by Cyclone Idai and expressed condolences to the victims. We hope that the injured would recover at an early date and the affected people would return home as soon as possible. Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe are China's friendly countries. The Chinese government would like to provide within its capacity necessary aid and support to them according to the severity of the disasters and the request by the governments of the three countries."

China will provide relief aid within its capacity to tropical cyclone-affected Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe, said Chinese foreign ministry spokesman on Tuesday.
The spokesman, Geng Shuang, told a regular news briefing in Beijing that "China conveys its sympathies to Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe for damage, heavy casualties and major property losses inflicted by Cyclone Idai and expressed condolences to the victims. We hope that the injured would recover at an early date and the affected people would return home as soon as possible. Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe are China's friendly countries. The Chinese government would like to provide within its capacity necessary aid and support to them according to the severity of the disasters and the request by the governments of the three countries."
Tropical Cyclone Idai slammed Mozambique when it landed in the country last week, and went on to batter Zimbabwe and Malawi, bringing strong winds, heavy rains and floods.
The National Institute for Disaster Management of Mozambique said Monday more than the cyclone killed 84 people and injured 1,500 others.
Zimbabwe's Ministry of Information said Monday on Twitter that at least 98 were died in his country.
The cyclone killed 56 people, according to the international medical humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders (MSF) on Monday.
