Chinese President Xi Jinping met with President of Harvard University Lawrence Bacow in Beijing on Wednesday.
Xi said exchanges on education is an important part of the China-U.S. relations, and it helps enhance the popular will for friendship between the two countries.
China advocates learning from each other and encourages students to study overseas to support education exchanges and cooperation with other countries, Xi said.
Xi expressed the hope that people-to-people exchanges between China and United States would yield more positive outcomes.
Noting that China's rapid development over the past 40 years since reform and opening-up benefits greatly from the improvement of education, Xi said China will expand education opening-up and strengthen exchanges with all countries around the world to jointly push forward the development of education.
Bacow said he visits China not only as the president of Harvard University, but on behalf of the U.S. universities to promote education exchanges between the United States and China.
Keeping and deepening exchanges and cooperation among educational and cultural institutions from the United States and China are of vital importance to promoting the U.S.-China relations in a long term, Bacow said.
