The men were all made to lie face down on the ground. Blankets were thrown over them. ISIS members stepped on their backs and they were killed."

Storyline

A Yazidi mother of four recalled her three years kept as a slave by the Islamic State (ISIS) militants on Tuesday, after having recently managed to get out.

Thousands of people like her have fled the jihadist group's final enclave in the east of Syria over the past few weeks.

Nadia Barakat Qasim said that she used to live a simple happy life with her family, but it was then all ruined by ISIS.

"In 2014, we lost everything. ISIS came for us. There were 300 of us: women, children and men. The men were all made to lie face down on the ground. Blankets were thrown over them. ISIS members stepped on their backs and they were killed," she said.

The young women were taken away and separated from their kids, and they were then traded ruthlessly in the market.

"Some of us were sold and bought ten times like when you took your livestock to the market. A Saudi Arabian woman bought me. She used to beat me on my hands. She broke my hand three times," she wept.

Qasim's son and daughter didn't escape the torture by IS either.

"My son, I was told, was taken to the desert in Damascus. Four vehicles carried young boys to the desert of Damascus. And my daughter is with an Iraqi IS member and I have no idea where they ended up," she said.

After all the miseries, Qasim still cherishes hopes for her life, which she wishes would return to peace and harmony in the past.

"God willing, our days in Tel Uzair will be good again, like how we had weddings, our children were with us, our brothers were with us. God willing," she said.
