"The importance of the year 2019 is also reflected in the complex international environment and the many difficulties in international relations, so we have big issues to discuss with President Xi, such as multilateralism, the multi-polarization of the world, and also the Belt and Road Initiative since France wants to participate in this global cooperative project. I look forward to China's growth and development, because China is a peaceful power the world needs today."

Storyline

French people from all walks of life believe that Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to France will further promote win-win cooperation between China and France, expand practical cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, and create a bright future for the common development of the two countries.

Former French Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin, who has long been committed to developing friendly relations with China, said recently in an exclusive interview with China Central Television (CCTV) that Xi's visit on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and France is of great significance to the friendship between the two countries.

I look forward to China's growth and development, because China is a peaceful power the world needs today," said Raffarin.

The French city Nice is the first stop of Xi's visit. The city has been playing an active role in the 55 years of exchanges between China and France.

"Nice has been maintaining ties with China in culture, higher education, science, technology and other fields in recent years. Chinese President's visit is a great honor for us. The Belt and Road Initiative is a great program. I think we should try our best to seize this opportunity, because it allows us to build real economic engagement, bring mutual economic support to our countries, and gives us the opportunity to succeed and prosper," said Nice Mayor Christian Estrosi

A number of French politicians and scholars also said that President Xi's visit will further consolidate bilateral relations and effectively promote bilateral cooperation in various fields.

"The Belt and Road Initiative is a very important initiative. It is of great significance to strengthen the solidarity between different countries and people. China has the ability to implement this initiative. When it comes to the cooperation space between China and France, it is indeed very broad," said Laurent Fabius, president of the Constitutional Council of France.

"I believe I have some qualifications to discuss one of the key points President Xi brought up, regarding cultural and educational communication. There are many Chinese students in Paris. Half of my doctoral students are Chinese. I'm glad to guide them through exploring academia. Meanwhile, they also bring a lot of things to the labs, and to the university as a whole, and have made college research more open and diverse," said Didier Demolin, a professor of linguistics at New Sorbonne University.
