Storyline

War means nothing but total destruction, tragedy and killings, said Yemeni people after four years of harrowing life on the war-torn land.

Yemen has been mired in a civil war since 2014 when the Houthi rebels overtook the capital Sanaa and toppled the government of President Abd-Rabbuh Mansour Hadi. A Saudi-led coalition has been fighting the Houthi rebels since 2015.

The war has killed more than 10,000 people and created the world's worst humanitarian crisis.

"Wherever it is, war means destruction to all involved. It destroys the people, the infrastructure and everything," said Radwan Al-Azi, director of teaching plan from the Houthi Ministry of Education.

"I think war is total destruction of our country. It destroys the economy and the infrastructure. Women and children die miserably. War has destroyed everything of the country," echoed Houthi rebel Zakim Ahmed.

For the young and the old and people from all walks of life, the long-lasting war has deprived them of almost everything, including the basic rights and services.

"Because of war, we have no teachers to give us classes, and we can't have education," said primary school student Ali Naji.

"Before the war, I had an auto repair shop. I hired several workers, and the business was very good. Now after the four years, all is gone. The shop is closed and I'm forced back to the very first days when I had to repair vehicles by the road," said auto mechanic Azi Naji.

"I used to make a living from sea fishing. Now I'm out of work. The war has destroyed everything. None has gained any good in the four years," said fishermen Abdo Zain in Aden.

The long-standing fights have also led to poor economic situation in Yemen, making the life even more difficult for the people.

"The war has caused complete destruction, impacting the life of all. The price is rising, foreign currencies are appreciating while our own money is depreciating," said company employee Ayman Said.

For most of the Yemeni people, regardless of their profession, position and political stance, the war has brought them too much pain of witnessing the total destruction of their homeland, heartbreaking separations, horrible killings and nothing good for anyone, they said.
