Storyline

Sudan's Transitional Military Council announced key concessions on Sunday in the capital Khartoum, aimed at appeasing protesters calling for a civilian-led transition to democracy.

The meeting was held at the headquarters of the General Command of the Armed Forces one day after the announcement of its formation in the presence of Chief Justice, Abdul-Magid Idris.

The Council's spokesman, Lieutenant General Shamseddine Kabbashi Ibrahim, said the resignation of Salah Abdallah Mohamed Saleh, the former head of the National Intelligence and Security Service, was accepted, and Lieutenant General Abu Bakr Mustafa will replace him.

The council decided to review the public order law. It also appointed a special committee to study the law, and submit to the council a new plan about how to take over the role and assets of the National Congress.

According to the council, the anti-corruption commission will be restructured.

The council also decided to release activists who participated in the demonstrations, which lasted over four months.
