United Nations Special Envoy to Syria Geir Pedersen on Monday said his latest research visit to Damascus saw fruitful results, as Syrian officials and other parties to the long-running conflict discussed relevant issues to a political solution.
Pedersen made the remarks just before concluding a three-day trip to the country.
"So I've now concluded my third research trip to Damascus. We have had in-depth discussions. We were able to address all the issues of relevance to finding a political solution to the crisis that has been going on for too long in Syria. I am looking very much forward to coming back, I hope soon, to continue what I believe has been fruitful discussions," said Pedersen.
The special envoy arrived in the country's capital Damascus on Saturday afternoon and met with Syrian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem on Sunday.
The two sides exchanged ideas regarding the details and criteria for the formation of a constitutional committee and the conditions for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution (UNSC) No. 2254, as well as the issue of humanitarian support for Syrian refugees.
Pedersen will also be participating in a new round of Syrian peace talks scheduled for April 25 in Astana, Kazakhstan.
