The People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy is on its way of becoming the world's first-class navy, demonstrating the responsibilities of a big power navy for maintaining world peace, thanks to its 70 years of experience through thick and thin in the war years and to its innovative development in peace.

With greater confidence today, the PLA Navy is greeting nearly 20 warships from a dozen countries coming to join its celebration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Navy.

Chinese President Xi Jinping once said that a strong people's navy bears the responsibility of realizing the aspirations of generations of the Chinese nation for a big sea power.

For years, the Chinese navy has persisted in the real-combat drills and more than 80 percent of the commanders above the divisional level have experienced the acid tests at ocean-going operations. The replacement of equipment and weapons over the past decades have exceeded what has been done over the past half century.

Today, the number of main warships has increased at three-digit speed, with J-15 carrier borne fighters delivered in batches and new fighter jets, early-warning aircraft, anti-submarine patrol plane, nuclear-powered submarine, and comprehensive supply ships commissioned one after another.

The Chinese navy has over the past 10 years provided protection for 6,600 Chinese and foreign merchant ships in the Gulf of Aden and waters off Somalia.

The Chinese Navy escorted 20 vessels carrying Syria’s chemical weapon to ensure that they were completely destroyed. The rescue ship Changxingdao delivered fresh water to Maldives’ capital city of Male and the naval hospital ship Peace Ark has helped more than 200,000 people in Asia, Africa and Latin America to regain sight.
