Storyline

Rescuers are still searching for the three trapped people as of Monday evening at the accident site of a night bar collapse that killed at least four and injured 87 in the city of Baise, south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

The accident took place at around 01:00 Monday morning. As of 19:30 Monday, a total of 90 people were sent to hospital for treatment. Among the injured, 17 remain in hospital for further observation, and 53 have been discharged after wound debridement.

Local police and fire departments sent around 260 people to help with rescue efforts after the accident. Equipped with life detectors and search and rescue dogs, the rescuers have found no signs of life during the search for the trapped yet.

The bar, with a space of 700 square meters, was located on the top floor of a three-story steel-framed building, in Youjiang District, Baise.

The injured recall the moment of the tragedy, saying the bar plunged into a sudden power failure after midnight, and the collapse then took place about half an hour later.

"I was not aware of what was going on, and when I turned back to leave the bar, I heard a large noise from the back, so loud as if it was thundering. And then I heard people screaming, and rocks fell down in front of me," said He Ping, an injured.

"When I heard some noise from above, I thought that the power was about to recover. So I looked up and saw the entire ceiling falling down to me, and rainwaters poured inside in an instant," said Wu Yongqing, another injured in the bar collapse.

Both the national and regional health authorities have sent medical expert teams to guide treatment.

Yu Jieyang, a physician from People's Hospital of Baise, said they carried out immediate surgeries for the severely injured, and mapped out plans to offer psychological support for all the injured.

"We have given operation to the patients in serious conditions who have all came back to their wards well, except for one who is still in ICU and we are worried most and paying close attention to," said Yu.

An emergency action plan was implemented right after the tragedy to carry out the search for the missing as well as the investigation into the case.

Local public securities said they have detained seven people related to the accident.

"After informed of the accident, we started investigation right away and summoned 23 people related. The preliminary investigation suggested that seven people are under suspicion for crime of major safety accident, and they will be under detention," said Wei Hongming, head of Youjiang District branch under the Public Security Bureau of Baise.

Investigation and rescue efforts are still underway.
