Now the company's capacity keeps thriving as the whole company is full of vigor and [people are] refusing mediocrity. So how can you say it's the most dangerous time? It should be in the best condition."

Of course, someone may worry that whether there will be two divided standards of 5G and the western has its own standard. I don’t think so, because we human beings finally have a unified standard to serve a common global cloud society. Two standards are two 'coulds' that will be hardly blended. Today the United States hit us, we may slip down a bit and then we will climb upwards again."

Storyline

Huawei is in the best condition and is prepared for a protracted battle, said Ren Zhengfei, founder and president of the Chinese technology giant on Tuesday.

Ren made the comment during an exclusive interview with China Central Television (CCTV) at the headquarters of Huawei in Shenzhen City of south China's Guangdong Province.

The Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) of the U.S. Department of Commerce on May 15 put Huawei and its affiliates on an "Entity List," which would restrict the sale or transfer of U.S. technologies to the company.

During the interview, when asked whether Huawei is currently facing the most dangerous time, Ren gave his answer.

"Our company was in the most dangerous situation before Meng Wanzhou's case happened. At that time, some people were lazy and did not accept assignments because they had money in their pockets and were unwilling to work in hard places. Now the company's capacity keeps thriving as the whole company is full of vigor and [people are] refusing mediocrity. So how can you say it's the most dangerous time? It should be in the best condition," said Ren.

And in December 1, 2018, Meng Wanzhou, Huawei’s chief financial officer, was arrested at an airport of Canada's Vancouver at the request of the United States, which is seeking her extradition on fraud charges. Both Meng and Huawei have repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.

In terms of possible long-lasting China-US trade disputes, Ren said that Huawei is already well prepared.

"There is the possibility of becoming long-lasting. We've prepared for a protracted battle, not for a short one. Maybe we will become stronger through the long-term fight. Of course, someone may worry that whether there will be two divided standards of 5G and the western has its own standard. I don’t think so, because we human beings finally have a unified standard to serve a common global cloud society. Two standards are two 'coulds' that will be hardly blended. Today the United States hit us, we may slip down a bit and then we will climb upwards again," said Ren.

When talking about his expectation of public mindset toward Huawei, Ren said he hopes people will keep on doing well their own works.

"I hope they are unaffected. Just stay calm and keep doing their own works. You can make a contribution by producing one more crop, or waste some time by saying one more sentence," he said.

Huawei's chipset subsidiary HiSilicon said on May 17 that it will use backup chips it has independently developed for years to cope with the ban from the United States. And Ren said that HiSilicon’s development has reasons.

"HiSilicon has a large amount of basic theory, which were achieved by the strategic research institute through spreading resources widely. How can it make such progress without basic theory? They have very profound basic theory," said Ren.

HiSilicon is called a "backup" by the public and even by the company itself. But Ren said that it is a very important company.

"They receive salaries and bonus and get awards normally. They are as important as our marketing and developing department," said Ren.

Ren said that Huawei has always been using HiSilicon's products. "It's just because they come forward now and we mainly rely on their supply. If the United States restore its supply, they will return to low volume of production," said Ren.

When asked whether such a day will come, Ren said "maybe".

"Maybe, if the United States realized that it's walking on a wrong way, the country may correct itself," said Ren.
