"Of the two pandas, Ru Yi is careless and casual, and became accustomed to the new breeders and surroundings soon after arriving here; Ding Ding is a little bit timid. So we interact more with her and cut the bamboo into slices for her to get her familiar with her new breeders and the breeders' smell. She has also become accustomed to the new environment within a few days."

Storyline

The pair of giant pandas that arrived at the Moscow Zoo in Russia on April 29 from southwest China's Sichuan Province have become accustomed to their new home abroad.

After a month at the zoo, Ru Yi, the male panda born in 2016, and Ding Ding, the female panda born in 2017, can be seen enjoying themselves in their new surrounding, playing around at ease and chewing on their favorite bamboos, fresh from China.

She has also become accustomed to the new environment within a few days," according to panda feeder Wang Pingfeng.

Ru Yi and Ding Ding will stay at the Moscow Zoo for a 15-year collaborative research project, according to an agreement signed on Feb 28 by the zoo and the China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Panda (CCRCGP).

It is aimed to further promote international cooperation on giant panda protection and improve conservation of endangered species and biological diversity of the two countries.

"They are here to enlighten our people. And for that reason, in the panda pavilion, we have also installed an educational exhibition. I hope our relationship deepens, and I hope we will write many research papers on these wonderful giant pandas," said Svetlana Akulova, director of Moscow Zoo.

The pair is expected to attract millions of visitors in the coming years and serve as "ambassadors" in the promotion of China-Russia exchanges.

Chinese President Xi Jinping, on his three-day state visit in Russia, visited the Moscow Zoo Wednesday and attended the inauguration ceremony of the panda house there together with President Putin.
