Storyline


A Thai official spoke highly of China’s stance on safeguarding free trade and advocated Asian countries should unite closely to cope with trade protectionism.

He made the remarks in an exclusive interview with China Central Television (CCTV) on Tuesday.

Kanit Sangsubhan, secretary-general of the Thailand's Eastern Economic Corridor(EEC) Office, said the countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) have always advocating free trade and actively advancing the construction of China-ASEAN Free Trade Area, which is the trend for the development of the global economy. He spoke highly of China’s contribution by taking the initiative to promote free trade.

"I appreciate China's opinion on free trade. If every country backtracks and advocates trade protectionism, it will impose detrimental impact on ASEAN countries including Thailand. Now, the United States sticks to trade protectionism, but China persists in safeguarding free trade. We strongly support the practices of China," said Kanit.

Kanit also called on Asian countries to make joint efforts to cope with trade protectionism.

"The products made in China and obstructed from exporting to the United States can be exported to the nearby Asian countries. We will increase import of products from China and should further promote the trade flow within Asian countries," said Kanit.
