"The Chinese Foreign Ministry has expressed its solemn position on the issue. Some U.S. individuals make irresponsible comments time and again that seriously violate the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiques. The current cross-Strait situation is complicated and grim and the United States should cautiously handle Taiwan-related issues rather than give out wrong signals to 'Taiwan independence' secessionist forces. Meanwhile, we sternly warn the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) not to underestimate the mainland’s determination and capability to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity. Any attempt or move to rely on foreign forces or destroy cross-Strait relations is doomed to fail."
