Storyline


Continuous heavy rain caused flooding in six cities and 38 counties of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. As of 15:00 Wednesday, more than 590,000 people had been affected, with 17 dead and nine missing.

Heavy rain has also hit 235 observation stations in 43 counties in southwest China's Guizhou Province from Tuesday night till Wednesday morning.

At about 21:00 Tuesday, thee precipitation in Shuidong Town of Bijie City reached 104 millimeters. Some vehicles were swept away in a flash flood and more than 1,500 people were affected.

Local government, emergency management bureau, fire department rushed to the scene for emergency rescue, and evacuated 1,428 people overnight.

In Suiyang County, torrential rain led to landslide in many areas. Traffic police has set up warning lines to ease traffic congestion. The rain has affected more than 1,600 mu (or 106.67 hectares) of farmland, destroyed three houses, damaged many roads, and interrupted power supply for more than ten hours.

Rainstorm battered Wangmo County on Wednesday with a maximum precipitation of 143.9 millimeters, leaving houses, school buildings and farmlands in many towns flooded.

Local authorities have evacuated 321 students timely. The flood has subsided in late morning and classes have been resumed.

Affected by a short period of heavy rain, several road sections in downtown Longyan City in east China's Fujian Province were seriously flooded, and some sections were impassable.

As of 07:00 Wednesday, a total of 17,000 people in five counties and 63 towns were affected. 15 houses collapsed and nearly 4,000 people were evacuated.

Intense rain on Tuesday night drenched Lechang County in south China's Guangdong Province, with the maximum precipitation reaching 174.2 mm in some areas and the water-logging in some low-lying streets reaching 1.5 meters deep.

In the main water-logged section, the local public security and traffic police sent extra police on duty. As of Wednesday morning, traffic in downtown area had resumed.
